Richmond
Redwood Stables Holiday Park,
It is so convenient for shops, cycling and walking tracks. Dogs and Wi-Fi are ok, cassette-only dump station, no showers, $20 per night on power. We stayed here last November and it was all about cycling, this year it will be about walking.

Richmond
Jimmy Lee Creek,
What a gem, access right in suburbia as soon as you start the walk you are in the bush. I love the bird feeder beside the track; the top view is excellent. If you want a more extensive walk you can carry on up Mt Richmond.
A bit muddy in July and not sure about the creek crossings after heavy rain, but there are stepping stones when we crossed.

Cool bird feeder beside the track

Nelson
Founders Heritage Park,
We enjoyed our visit here there is more to see than you might think, it took us a couple of hours including lunch at the cafe that isn't open every day so lucky we picked the right day.

Provincial Museum,
Not a huge museum, we fitted it in with shopping in the city, the Christ Church Cathedral is also at the end of the same road.

Nelson
The Brook Waimarama Sanctuary
The Largest fenced Sanctuary for endangered plants and creatures on the South Island. There is a flattish loop displaying the Dams, and then it's all uphill hiking the rivers were too high for us to cross but we still managed a good walk.

Mt Richmond Forest Park
Whispering Falls
17kms from Richmond town in the Aniseed Valley is this lovely walk, it has a river crossing because the last bridge looks like it hasn't been there for years only the end supports are still there. Sadly we didn't make it to the Falls because the river was too high at the crossing after recent rain. We decided to hike up to the Historic Chrome Road on the way back a mistake with an elevation gain of 350m it was hard going and took much longer than the 25 mins on the sign.

We enjoyed this all-weather walk that starts in town and goes to the Maitai Valley Camping Ground, only the last couple of kms before we turned around at the camp had hills.

Several swimming holes are along the way

Tasman
Rough Island Loop Walk
With the rain on the horizon, we made the most of the outdoors and decided on another flat walk. With good views and no wind, it was an interesting easy walk around the edge of the pine forest.
