It rained this morning after such a beautiful day yesterday was amazing, so a change of plan did all the essentials this morning then went back to the NZMCA camp had lunch and a huge nana nap while Frog read usually the other way around so must have needed it.
The weather cleared late this afternoon so we walked to King Edward Park, an easy walk from the camp and an amazing park!!!! A real jewel in the crown for Hawera. Suitable for all ages with an amazing playground.

Lake Rotokare
Wednesday we did a 3.5-hour hike that took us up the ridge track with beautiful views in every direction. We marveled at the amount of effort that went into installing the predator fence and the many steps in such steep taurine.
After a late lunch and nana nap, we had a good happy hour with several other couples that had come in to stay. There were heaps of activity on the lake with boats coming in after work for a play.
About 10pm we went Kiwi finding again with no luck that made appreciate how lucky we were the night before to see two young Kiwi, unfortunately, they are way too quick to grab a photo.
Thursday walked the track around the lake lovely bush with birdlife saddlebacks, Tui, kereru/ wood pigeon, Hihi/Stitchbird, Robin among some.
Friday back to Hawera.....

Arrived Tuesday to fine but windy weather and busy with day visitors.
The lake reserve is surrounded by predator-proof fencing, gates must be shut at all times.
