Lake Ruataniwha
This area of Canterbury is beautiful, we stayed in the freedom camp, there is a donation box to contribute and plenty of walking along the lake shore.

Pretty views along the lake walk |

A short walk from camp is the dam |
 |
After reaching the dam we turned to walk back down the lake |

Twizel

Twizel is just up the road from camp so today we went for a river walk. |
Lake Tekapo
Staying at the NZMCA Park the view was different from other years as the water was down in the lake.

Big off-leash dog park next door to camp |
 |
Across the road from camp we enjoyed the walking tracks through the forest |
 |
Also cycle tracks for those with bikes |

In the 19th century, Scottish shepherds came to work on the pastoral runs of the eastern South Island. The high country could not have been farmed successfully without the border collies they brought with them. To honor these ‘canine Scots’, a statue of a collie has been raised at Lake Tekapo. |
Lake Opuha, Ashwick Flats
The last time we visited this lake we stayed further up the lake I enjoyed this free camp better, there is a walk here and we parked with elevated views.
