Ashhurst & Surrounds
Manawatū Region
North Island New Zealand
2022
Otorohanga, Waikato
Before we head to the South Island we need to get a W.O.F. We haven't been to the doctor and dentist for over a year.
We also did a drive-by of our house and the new tenant seems to have settled in ok.
That sorted we headed to Ashhurst in the Manawatu Region to get the motorhome measured for a windscreen cover to help with the cold and condensation in the winter and heat in the summer.
We stayed at the nzmca park
Did a couple of walks from camp
Feilding
The first night's stop was Timona Park in Feilding it is a great Free camping spot, dogs and Wi-Fi are ok.
Ashhurst
This little town is where Dymx Manufacturing makes its windscreen covers. We got the motorhome measured and it is going to be an estimated 3 weeks to make.
The new solar panels still struggle to produce enough power when the sun doesn't shine.
So we booked into Ashhurst Domain Motor Camp to do a few walks. $20 on power for 2 adults, dogs and Wi-Fi ok, free showers at the moment.
We had 5 nights here and loved it
Manawatu Gorge Loop TrackThe new bridge in progress
Enjoyable loop 5.24 km - 1 hrs 35 mins
Tiki Tour in Jimny
The next day was perfect for a drive to see the windmills, so we went through to Woodville stopping to admire the views along the way.
We had lunch and a short walk in Palmerston North before heading back to camp in Ashhurst.
Mt Ruapehu in the distance
Lots of windmills
Woodville free camping area
Off the beaten track
Looking south
View from lookout
Steps of Tane
I had to stop for a breather
Bottom of the steps
Back at camp, we found a loop track around the Ashhurst Domain perimeter that we extended to double the distance.
This part is also a cycle track10.52 km - 2hrs 10 mins loop with an extension
Apiti
After a relaxing time in Ashhurst, things didn't go to plan. We wanted to do some hikes in the
Pohangina Valley but the 3 places we had in mind to stay at were unsuitable in wet weather.
We ended up spending a night in the Apiti Domain and I woke up with a head cold.
With heavy rain forecast, it was time to give up and return to Fielding and stay a few nights at
Timona Park again.
Returning Zion in Pokeno
Remember the wing mirror that was ordered from Germany, well we got emailed to say it had finally arrived.
We stopped for lunch in Taihape, and Marilyn and Michael fellow Dethleffs Esprit owners that we first met in Arthur Pass turned up.
Taupo, Waikato
We don't need to be at Zions until Tuesday so had a night at Taupo NZMCA.
Pukekohe, Auckland
Time to catch up on chores, staying at Rosa Birch Park, dogs and wifi ok.
Next
