Blenheim
SS Waverley Shipwreck. Today’s walk
The Waverley was towed from Wellington by the SS Wairau to the mouth of the Wairau River where she was to be sunk to form a breakwater. Before being scuttled, she has swept up the channel in a flood to where she now lies, in the Wairau Lagoons. Return either the same way or, more directly, across the saltmarsh area, with its salt-resistant plants. Alternatively, it is possible to continue beyond the Waverley for a view of the river.

Picton
Staying 3 nights at the RSA, been the only ones here all day and tonight. We managed to sort things out in the garage this afternoon and we have two big boxes inside with us tonight Phil was more than happy to get the bikes off his truck before heading down the line in the morning. He will overnight here again on Tuesday so we will get to catch up again for dinner.
Tasman Region
Murchison
We departed Picton this morning after a great catch-up with Phil.
Stopping again at Lake Rotoiti for lunch after having a look at the cycle shops in Blenheim we needed a few things for the bikes.
We got to Murchison mid-afternoon and settled into the NZMCA for the night, back where we left off from our detour. Few pics from the drive over

Buller Gorge
Leaving Murchison we took a detour to see the Maruia River Waterfall, nice looking waterfall. Roberts turn for a fall as he stepped on a rock that rolled underfoot landing on both shins and grazing them.
Next, we drove to Lyell stopping for the night at the Doc camp using our NZMCA Pass (no internet). After lunch, we did the cemetery and gold battery walk coming back via the Old ghost road.
