After visiting Whangarei Falls we head north 26km to stay the night at Shoebridge Reserve Car Park Ngunguru for $5 per night our neighbour a lovely well kept little church. We went for a stroll after dinner there’s an estuary beach popular for boating.

Tutukaka
After breakfast headed for Tutukaka, we stayed here many years ago at the hilltop motel with panoramic views, that time I ended up with an ambulance trip to the hospital after finding out I had developed an allergy to scallops. Not a lot has changed still a stunning Marina development
Matapouri
The Matapouri beach is absolutely stunning the photos didn’t capture what our eyes saw there was no wind and just glorious. The view from Whale Bay lookout is gorgeous
Hikurangi
Stop for milk and bread at Hikurangi a tiny quaint tiny country town.
Whananaki North
24kms from SH1 out toward the coast we stopped to walk across the famous footbridge
Otamura Bay Whananaki
DOC Camp....staying here a few nights the weather has turned cold and windy but didn’t stop us from having happy hour with 3 other neighbours.
There’s no wifi here so this is a delayed story.
We woke to rain and wind that ended mid-morning got in a walk over the hill and a swim, finished with happy hour until the chill came back in.
